What is a Vaplast denture?
A Valplast denture is a flexible denture which is commonly used as a removable partial denture (RPD) to replace missing teeth and provides a more comfortable, aesthetic and successful alternative to traditional RPD’s. These dentures can provide a temporary treatment for missing teeth, or on occasion as a permanent solution.
What kind of material are they made of?
Flexible RPD’s are made from a type of nylon know as super-polyamides, which is extremely durable and strong. Being a thermoplastic, it changes shape under a high temperature which allows it to be manipulated and can then be created into a mould.
Benefits of a flexible Valplast RPD include:
- Realistic look
- Retentive and secure
- No metal wire or clasps
- Non allergenic
- Thin and lightweight
- Resistant to fracture
- Stain and odour resistant
- Gum coloured base covers areas where natural gum tissue has receded
- Lifetime warranty
- Ability to add teeth and reline
Will My Valplast denture break under stress?
Each Valplast denture comes with its own unique serial number, which when it is registered will give your denture a certificate of authenticity and a lifetime warranty for fractures or breaks. The warranty covers the Valplast resin (pink, nylon material) but not the teeth that are embedded in it; however, at Total Denture Care we will provide warranty if the teeth de-bond from the Valplast resin.
Can a Valplast denture be relined or have another tooth/teeth added?
Yes it can be done. Total Denture Care will send your appliance to a certified Valplast Laboratory to have a tooth/teeth added or be relined. Sometimes an impression will be needed prior to sending away the appliance and may take a few days to be completed. In some cases it may be beneficial to have a new denture fabricated than modify the existing one; however, at Total Denture Care we will inform you which procedure is most suitable for you.
How do you clean flexible dentures?
Even though Valplast have minimal chance of staining or absorbing odours, they still need to be removed and cleaned thoroughly like any other denture material. Valplast doesn’t recommend using over the counter cleaning products as they may discolour. Valplast recommends Valplast Clean Denture Cleanser and Nitradine Denture Disinfectant as they are the only products that have been proven to clean and disinfect Valplast Flexible Dentures. These products can be purchased from our clinic or can be ordered online at the Valplast website – www.valplast.com. Practicing good oral hygiene by removing and cleaning your appliance will help prevent gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and tooth decay. Due to the reduction of saliva flow during sleep, it is advised never to wear your dentures, as it will increase the amount of bacteria.
